Before We Begin Our Bible Study…
Before we begin
our Bible Study, we need to make sure that we are all in agreement as to the
fact that we accept that the Bible is the Divinely-Inspired, God-breathed,
complete and final, all-authoritative, and inerrant Word and will of Almighty
God. It is the final authority for all
things that we accept, believe, and practice.
As such, it is not to be edited, added to, or taken from; that it does
not have an expiration date; and that it is to be absolutely and ultimately
trusted. It is above any men’s or
women’s doctrines, feelings, thoughts, and/or experiences. Indeed, it is the final authority by which we
shall be judged, and therefore must abide, as God’s children.
Deuteronomy 4:1-2: "And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the
rules that I am teaching you, and do them, that you may live, and go in and
take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving
you. You shall not add to the word that
I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord
your God that I command you.
Deuteronomy 5:32-33: You shall be careful therefore to do as the Lord your God
has commanded you. You shall not turn
aside to the right hand or to the left. You shall walk in all the way that
the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may go well
with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess.
Deuteronomy 12:28-32: Be careful to obey all these words that I command you,
that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, when you
do what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God. "When the
Lord your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and
you dispossess them and dwell in their land, take care that you be not ensnared
to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not
inquire about their gods, saying, 'How did these nations serve their gods?—that
I also may do the same.' You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way,
for every abominable thing that the Lord hates they have done for their gods,
for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. "Everything that I command you, you
shall be careful to do. You shall not add to it or take from it.”
Deuteronomy 28:13-14: And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and
you shall only go up and not down, if you obey the commandments of the Lord
your God, which I command you today, being careful to do them, and if you do not turn aside from any of the words
that I command you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after
other gods to serve them.
Joshua 1:7-9: Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do
according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to
the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This Book of the
Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and
night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.
For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good
success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be
frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever
you go."
Psalm 119:89: Forever, O
Lord, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.
Isaiah 55:8-9: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your
ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Matthew 4:4: But he answered, "It is written,” 'Man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word that comes from
the mouth of God.' "
Matthew 15:7-9: You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he
said: “‘this people honors me with their lips, but
their heart is far from me; in vain do
they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' "
Matthew 22:29 + 31: But Jesus answered them, "You are wrong, because you
know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God… And as for the resurrection
of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God…?
Luke 6:46-49: "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he
is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug
deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream
broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well
built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a
house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it,
immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great."
John 4:23-24: But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in
spirit and truth, for the Father is
seeking such people to worship him. God
is spirit, and those who worship him must
worship in spirit and truth."
John 8:31-32: So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you abide in my word, you
are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth
will set you free."
John 12:48-50: The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. For I
have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself
given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak. And I know that his
commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has
told me."
John 14:15:
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
John 17:17:
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is
truth.
Romans 3:3-4: What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness
nullify the faithfulness of God? By no means! Let God be true though every one were a liar, as it is written…”
Romans 16:17-18: I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who
cause divisions and create obstacles contrary
to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do
not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and
flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.
1 Corinthians 14:37: If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he
should acknowledge that the things I am
writing to you are a command of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 4:2: But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We
refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open
statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience
in the sight of God.
Colossians 3:16: Let the word of
Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all
wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your
hearts to God.
1 Thessalonians 2:13: And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you
received the word of God, which you
heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is,
the word of God, which is at work in you believers.
1 Timothy 3:14-15: I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things
to you so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church
of the living God, a pillar and buttress of truth.
2 Timothy 3:14-4:4: But as for you, continue in what you have learned and
have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood
you have been acquainted with the sacred
writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ
Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for
reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God
may be competent, equipped for every good work. I charge you in the
presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead,
and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke,
and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when
people will not endure sound teaching,
but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit
their own passions, and will turn away
from listening to the truth and
wander off into myths.
James 1:18 + 21: Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of
his creation…Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and
receive with meekness the implanted
word, which is able to save your souls.
1 Peter 1:22-25: Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love
one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of
perishable seed but of imperishable, through
the living and abiding word of God; for: "All flesh is like grass and
all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower
falls, but the word of the Lord remains
forever." And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
2 Peter 1:16-21: For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made
known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses
of his majesty. For when he received
honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the
Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,"
we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on
the holy mountain.
And we
have something more sure, the prophetic
word, to which you will do well to
pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and
the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing
this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own
interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men
spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 3:1-3: This is now the second letter that I am writing to you,
beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder,
that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior
through your apostles, knowing this first of all, that
scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own
sinful desires.
2 Peter 3:14-18: Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be
diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. And count
the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also
wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters
when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are
hard to understand, which the ignorant
and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.
You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not
carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But
grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
2 John 1:1-10 (excerpts): The elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love
in truth, and not only I, but also all who know the truth, because of the truth that abides in us and will be
with us forever… And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments… Everyone
who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ,
does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the
Son. If anyone comes to you and does not
bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any
greeting,
Jude 1:3:
Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation,
I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered
to the saints.
Rev. 22:18-19: I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of
this book: if anyone adds to them,
God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the
book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and
in the holy city, which are described in this book.
For further study on the all-inclusive authority and
unchanging nature of the Word of God, as written, and its incredible power and
every-day applications for our lives, please see and study the 119th Psalm as well!
If we are
truly willing to acknowledge and accept the Bible as the all-authoritative,
inerrant, eternal Word and Will of Almighty God, and the final authority in all
things:
“…that pertain to life and
godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and
excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises,
so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having
escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For
this very reason, make every effort
to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with
steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly
affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and
are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the
knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so
nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his
former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all
the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you
practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way
there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:3-11)
